About the Book Club

At this current time, we are all having to find new ways to keep in touch and be a community that don’t involve actually leaving our homes and being together in the same place. This book club will meet that challenge in two ways. Firstly because we will meet virtually. Also because we will look together at books that can help us to think about being a Christian community in our current situation.

Bonhoeffer’s Life Together was written during the Third Reich in Germany and looks at the church as a community of love in that context. Needham’s book is a modern day (but pre-Covid 19) look at the distinctives of Christian friendship, particularly as the basis of community beyond the ties of family. We can gather up insights from these two very different books and reflect on life in Leeds.

With thanks to Rachel Hudd for proposing these books.
