Janet is an Occupational Therapy Assistant at a hospital in Leeds, and uses the beauty of nature in her work with stroke patients.

Photographs, sound and spoken words are combined in Janet’s approach to relax the muscles of her patients’ upper limbs, resulting in observations of micro movements attributed to her holistic approach under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist.

Janet has been following the growth of plants and shrubs in the busy inner-city areas of Leeds and surrounding areas, getting to know the life cycle of the plants by regular visits and documenting their changing forms and phases.

She frames her photography, which conveys solitude in the midst of the hustle and bustle of every-day life.

Janet creates an oasis of calm in the city with her unique style of capturing nature, and is an inspiration to her hospital colleagues and her local prayer group alike.

We are exhibiting this series of eight photographs as Janet reflects on the beauty, magnitude and power of nature as a spiritual connection. You can listen to her words as she connects the love of God and appreciation of nature.
